Thanks: Volunteers for the Big Sur International Marathon
Update: A big thanks goes to all of you who volunteered for this wonderful event.
Here’s a great chance to help Habitat and have some fun at the same time! The Big Sur International Marathon (www.bsim.org) has made donations in past years to our Habitat Chapter. They generally base the amount of the donation on the number of volunteers we turn out on race day (“you help us, we help you”). They are now asking us to help with the clean up and closing of the race course to be held on Sunday, May 1.
We would work from noon to 5 PM (beats having to get up at 3am!). We’re asking you folks to help out so that we can maximize the donated amount. We need you to register now so we can keep track of the number of folks signed up.
In the Group Name list, find “Monterey County Habitat for Humanity”. Enter the password: “bixby” all lower case without quotes, then click “Join Group”. Fill out the form (the required fields have stars next to them). You don’t have to enter your driver’s license number. Make sure to agree to the Waiver and then click “Join Group”. You will then be put onto the list of volunteers and receive updates as we get closer to May 1.
Some of you may be aware that part of Highway 1 collapsed, but as of this moment, the race will take place. We hear that the road will reopen on April 15th, but if this doesn’t happen, the race will be moved to Rio Road to the slide, back to Point Lobos, through the park and then out to the finish line, not a bad compromise at all.
We hope that you will consider volunteering, thus continuing Habitat’s support of this excellent event. Did I mention you’ll also get a nice t-shirt?
